Irene Jacobson
My artistic journey has been shaped by curiosity, storytelling, family, and a lifelong love of beauty and design. My parents were émigrés, so movement and adaptation were a natural part of childhood, and my sisters and I filled much of that time with imagination, dramatic play, storytelling, reading, and creative projects. My grandmother was one of my greatest inspirations—an endlessly curious woman who came to this country later in life, learned English, navigated Los Angeles by bus, and taught me sewing, textiles, craftsmanship, and the joy of continual learning. Together we designed outfits, chose fabrics, and created things by hand, which sparked my lifelong love of textiles, fashion, and thoughtful design.
As the “new kid on the block,” one of my strongest impressions of this class has been how warm, encouraging, and welcoming everyone has been. It’s clear this is a group filled not only with talent, but with curiosity, generosity, humor, and support for one another’s creative journeys. I’m excited for a year of exploration and look forward to getting to know everyone even better through both their art and their stories.
